Indian wrestlers once again proved themselves winners by dominating the show at the Grand Prix of Spain.

Top wrestler Vinesh Phogat clinched her first yellow metal since shifting to the 53 kg category while Divya Kakran claimed the top honors in the 68 kg category. For Vinesh who is India’s medal hopeful for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, this was the third tournament in the new category.

Vinesh defeated Justina Benites of Peru and Nina Minkenova of Russia with reasonable comfort in the eight-wrestler 53kg draw. In the finals, she was up against her Dutch rival Jessica Blaska who had given a tough fight stealing 6 points from the Indian.

The 24-year-old gold medalist at the Jakarta Asian Games, on the other hand, didn’t lose any points against Justina and Nina. Before this tournament Vinesh won a bronze and silver in the Asian Championship and Dan Kolov in the 53kg category.

Asian Games bronze medalist Divya who lost just 4 points in her campaign blanked Poland’s Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus in the final.
