Video Assistant Referee(VAR) stole the spotlight once again as Uruguay managed a 2-2 draw against Japan in Copa America on Friday wherein Uruguay has to wait until their final group game to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Tournament guests Japan, after a 4-0 defeat to Chile entered the game while Uruguay had nailed Ecuador 4-0 but despite some early close attempts from Uruguay, Japan began their dominance. Soon Koji Miyoshi provided them the lead in the 25th minute with a confident finish following a counterattack.

After a controversial decision from the VAR review, striker Luis Suarez leveled the goal from the penalty spot for Uruguay.

Japan defender Naomichi Ueda was soon penalized in a dispute for the ball to the bemusement of the Asian side. After the break, Shoya Nakajima seemed to have been brought down by Jose Gimenez in the box but the Japans penalty appeal was denied after a VAR check.

However, Miyoshi scored his brilliant second goal in the 59th minute which gave them a lead again which was leveled by a header from Gimenez.

Despite ferociously competitive battle on the field, as the match ended in a 2-2 draw, fans took on to social media to lash out at VAR decisions especially with Uruguay getting a penalty.
