Romanian Tennis superstar Simona Halep will be awarded Steaua Romaniei- the highest distinction in Romania. After her outstanding performance in the Wimbledon, the 27-year-old will be adding another feather to her cap as the Presidential Administration announced the highest honor of the nation on Monday.

“As a result of the extraordinary performance at the Wimbledon tennis tournament and as a sign of recognition and appreciation for the whole activity, the Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis has decided to award the highest award of the Romanian state, the National Order Steaua Romaniei in the Rank of the Knight, to the tennis player, Simona Halep”, the press release from the Romanian administration said.

“Through her dedication, devotion, and professionalism confirmed both on the tennis court and off the court, Simona Halep has promoted our country’s name all over the world. She is a model for the younger generation and her involvement in popularizing tennis among children is a huge gain for the Romanian sports”, the statement further said.

Halep became the first Romanian to win a Wimbledon singles title after shocking the seven-time champion Serena Williams 6-2 6-2 in the 56-minutes decider game on Sunday.
