Novak Djokovic proves once again that he hasn’t missed a beat in 2019, as he came out on Tuesday and crushed Mitchell Krueger in his first match of the Australian open 6-3 6-2 6-2.

The 31-year old Serb, chasing a 15th Grand Slam title sealed his victory over the American qualifier in two hours and three minutes on Rod Laver Arena. Djokovic finished with six aces to just two for Krueger and had his serve broken only once.

Novak Djokovic, the top seed and Roger Federer are neck-and-neck in seeking their seventh career Australian open Victory. Yesterday’s victory was in stark contrast to the way he exited the Melbourne a year ago at the hands of South Korea’s Chung Hyeon on the last 16 as he was struggling from elbow surgery.

About 230th ranked opponent Mitchell Krueger he said,” Playing against him for the first time I didn’t know what to expect. He was very competitive and I had to work hard. I enjoyed it.”

Djokovic, appearing in his 300th Grand Slam match, did drop his second service game to go 1-2 in the first set but regained dominance immediately and went on to record his 259th match win in a major tournament.
