Top-seeded Novak Djokovic overcame the hurdles ahead of him to reach the Australian Open quarterfinals for the first time since 2016 by beating World No 15 Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-3 at Melbourne Park.

Just the night after the mighty Roger Federer was stunned by Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, there was another ripple of upset at Rod Laver Arena as 32-year-old Medvedev shook the Serb with furious assaults of power hitting.

Djokovic has won 6 of his 14 Grand Slam titles at Melbourne Park and is all set to his 10th quarterfinal at the tournament. After a crushing struggle with Medvedev for nearly 1 hour 15 minutes, he joked during the on-court interview saying,” Since I guess my next opponent is watching, I am feeling fantastic. I have never felt fresher in my life.”

The world No 1 will continue his chase for a hat-trick of Grand-Slam titles and a record seventh at Melbourne Park against 8th seed Kei Nishikori who won an epic battle against Pablo Carreno Busta 6-7, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 7-6 after 5 hours 5 minutes.
