The striker transfer saga is finally over as Chelsea announced a loan deal for Gonzalo Higuain late on Wednesday. Maurizio Sarri got hold of his star man and the deal will domino moves for Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid & Krzysztof Piatek to AC Milan.
Chelsea fans will hope their new number nine will break the hoodoo of forwards which forced the manager to play Eden Hazard in a false 9 role. Higuain has 6 league goals for Milan this term, as many as both Alvaro Morata & Oliver Giroud put together for Chelsea.
In Higuain, Sarri finds a trusted goalscorer as the pair worked wonders in their 2015-16 season at Napoli. El Pipita had his career-best season with a record 36 goal tally in Serie A. On the penultimate day of the league, Higuain scored a record-breaking hat-trick & signaled out Sarri for the coach’s season-long support.
He said, “I thank Maurizio Sarri, absolutely, which is why after the third goal I went to hug him on the touchline. He helped me so much, he always told me what I had to do in order to improve and I always listened.”
The Chelsea manager will be happy to finally land his man whom he considers one of the best in the business. Like his predecessors, Higuain’s moves will be closely scrutinized being a Chelsea striker. Whether he provides the firepower his boss is looking for, only time will tell…
