Premier League leaders Liverpool were eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round as Wolverhampton Wanderers won their tie 2-1 at Molineux on Monday night.

It is the second time in three seasons that Liverpool is defeated by the wolves and they had won four out of six FA Cup ties against the Reds to prove the dominance.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp fielded a much-changed line-up by leaving star forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino on the bench and sending two teenage debutants Curtis Jones and full-back Rafael Camacho. The line-up was further weakened in the 6th minute when central defender Dejan Lovren retired with a hamstring injury and was replaced with another teenager Ki-Jana Hoever.

Klopp later released Salah and Firmino but it was too late as wolves were able to hold firm and maintain their lead.

Klop later commented that he had hoped to field a stronger side, but injuries to the likes of Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana forced him to make more changes than planned and opposed the suggestions that his team selection was disrespectful to the FA Cup itself.

Liverpool had won FA Cup six times but not since 2006 and victorious Wolves will now travel to either Shrewsbury or Stoke in the fourth round.
