Indian women’s hockey team forward, Lalremsiami who was part of the team which won FIH Women’s series in Hiroshima recently was received at her village in Kolasib district on Tuesday.

What made this homecoming special and heartwarming was the fact that her father passed away on days ago due to heart attack and the player decided to stick with the team in Japan.

The dedicated team player stayed back with her team to play semi-final and final on June 23rd against Japan and told her coach that she wants to play to make her father proud.

“Just before the game I got the news that my father died but I still played and we became Champions. I believe that my father will be proud of my achievement wherever he is”, Lalremsiami said.

Union Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju took o Twitter to appreciate her effort,” Indian women hockey player Lalremsiami’s father expired when India was to play a crucial semifinal at Hiroshima that would determine whether India’s Olympic dream would be alive. She told the coach, “I want to make my father proud. I want to stay, play and make sure India qualifies”.
