Juventus extended their lead at the top of the Serie A to a huge 16 points after coming through a second-half onslaught at Napoli to win 2-1 in an intensive match which saw both sides sending off a man each.

Napoli goalkeeper, Alex Meret was given a straight red card midway through the first half for tripping Ronaldo and Miralem Pjanic which was a blow to Napoli. The back-up goalkeeper David Ospina’s first task was to pick up the ball from the net after Pjanic scored from the resulting free-kick.

Emre Can behead a second, not long before Pjanic was dismissed for deliberate handball.

Napoli was back in the game in the 61st minute when Jose Callejon scored and Carlo Ancelotti’s team was given the opportunity to equalize. They got a golden chance when seven minutes remaining and they were awarded a penalty.

However, Lorenzo Insigne’s spot-kick hit a post and skipped the net. Napoli’s last chance was gone and Juventus held on to set a record of 26 away games unbeaten in Serie A, breaking their own best set between September 2011 and November 2012.
