Chelsea claimed a 2-1 victory at Malmo but Arsenal’s woes continued after a 1-0 loss by BATE in the UEFA Europa League last 32-first leg on Thursday.

Visitors Chelsea desperately needed some consolation after back-to-back defeats with last Sunday’s 6-0 thrashing by Manchester City and a 4-0 reverse at Bournemouth. Both Maurizio Sarri and Unai Emery were under pressure after a tough 2019 start but this latest victory eased some pressure off on beleaguered Chelsea coach.

Ross Barkley took advantage of the defensive lapse by Malmo to put the visiting team ahead on the first half with Olivier Giroud adding a 58th-minute score before the home team’s late goal.

Chelsea again faces Manchester United in the FA Cup on Monday before facing City once more in the League Cup final on February 24th.

“I am happy that we played with such confidence which was not an easy task after the last match”, Sarri told the media.

“I think I am always confident but sometimes we had the wrong approach towards matches, so we need to be careful in every match.”
